Yogi Tea Can Redesign
Given the task of creating Yogi Tea a can design for a new summer flavor, the first step was to research the company. Yogi Tea was very holistic, and nature based. The founder of Yogi Tea, Yogi Bhajan, was a yoga "guru” and taught his spiritual beliefs. Their box package designs were mainly yellow and purple with what looked to be a mandala design on the tops and bottoms of the packaging. Mandala designs are rooted in spirituality in religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism. In the middle of each of the packages are cups of tea with the main ingredients of that flavor placed around it.
Next was to study the flavors the brand has produced and try to make a flavor that would sound like a good summer flavor combination. Research on their flavors as well as herbs and flowers often used in holistic teas was conducted. It was important to use ingredients that were easily found growing in summer and that would be easily recognizable as a summer product. Once lemon and dandilion were decided on as the main ingredients for the tea, it was time to start designing the can itself.
The logo was the first element placed which was brought over into Procreate. From there, the background color was decided to be an ombre of warm colors to represent warm summer sunsets. Next, the mandalas were hand drawn in Procreate as it was easy to put fine, hand-drawn details in the piece. Also done in Procreate was the cup of tea and ingredient illustrations as well as the boxes in which the words and other elements reside. The piece was then taken over into Adobe Illustrator where the text was input and other elements such as the nutrition facts and barcode. The file was then saved out and put into mockups to present.
